Quotes are entered manually by Transport Providers and Skippers alike. So, in order to receive all of the best quotes we recommend allowing 1-2 days for the quotes start to come in.

What about insurance?

You should check the stipulated levels of coverage provided by Transport Providers and Skippers by looking at their profile page before accepting a quote.

Are you going to bug me with sales phone calls?

No, all quotes come to you via email, so you can review them when it’s convenient to you. You will receive no telephone communication.

How do I know the Transport Provider and Skippers are trustworthy?

Boat Movers Compared Ltd operates a feedback-rating system much like eBay, so after every transaction users leave either positive, neutral or negative ratings.

How many quotes can I expect to get?

98% of requests receive at least 3 quotes. We have multiple Transport Providers and Skippers on Boat Movers Compared Ltd, working hard to give you a great price!

Nice idea, but does this really work?

It is a condition of your membership at Boat Movers Compared Ltd that you operate legally and that includes carrying adequate levels of insurance for goods in transit and public liability.

Do I have to choose a quote?

No, all quotes you receive are with no obligation, you do not have to accept any. But you will probably want to!


Listing a Delivery

How many quotes can I expect to receive?

Although there is no guarantee, 98% of requests receive at least 3 quotes. We have plenty of Yacht Transport Providers & Skippers on Boat Movers Compared, so there is almost certainly someone who will be able to help with your delivery.

When will I receive a quote?

If you haven’t received a quote on your delivery yet the important thing is not to panic! You may not receive quotes on your delivery instantly but you should have some within a few days.

If your delivery is urgent or you are worried about the amount of quotes you have received, you can feature your delivery. This means that it will appear at the top of the search page in the highlighted section and attract more attention. Simply follow these steps to feature you delivery:

  1. Go to: http://www.boatmoverscompared.com/login/ and log into your account.
  2. Find your delivery under “My Listings”.
  3. Select “Promote Listing” from the right hand side of the page.
  4. Choose a promotion!

There are several other things you can do as a user to get more quotes on your shipment listing. The most beneficial of these are detailed below:

Describe your delivery request

The description of your delivery request is one of the most important elements of your listing. If you are vague, service providers can find it difficult to judge the dimensions, weight and other important factors in regards to your delivery. Without this information, service providers often will just provide a very high quote to cover themselves or simply not provide a quote at all.

So, if you want lots of quotes and service provider’s competing for your business make sure your description is accurate and complete.

If you significantly misrepresent the size or weight of your vessel, service providers who come to pick up your vessel, do have the express right to refuse the delivery or to charge you more, at their discretion. So avoid this by being honest about the delivery request and provide them with as much information as you have right from the start.

You can edit your shipment (provided no quotes have already been placed) to add more detail at any time.

Add pictures

A picture is worth a thousand words…. Service providers love to be able to see vessels before placing a bid and we have found that listings with pictures attract a great deal more quotes than those without. Not to mention service providers can often place far more accurate and competitive quotes if they can get a visual idea of vessel.

Uploading Photo’s?

If you are receiving an error message when trying to upload your shipment listing photos onto Boat Movers Compared, please try the following:

  • Ensure your picture is in an image format (e.g. .gif, .jpg, .bmp, .png etc…).
  • Try to reduce the image size (open up the image in photo editing software and reduce the width and height).
  • You can upload a maximum of 5 pictures per shipment listing, so if you try to upload any more than this, the system will stop you.

Unsure of weight & dimensions?

We understand that often you simply don’t know the dimensions and weights of the  vessels you are trying to move.

That is not a problem here at Boat Movers Compared! When you get to the step when listing your delivery and it requests weight & dimensions, simply enter a best guess and be sure to update the information when you have it to hand later that day. It doesn’t matter if you’re way off as our specialist Yacht Transport Providers & Skippers generally have a very good idea, especially if you have also uploaded a photo.

To alert Transport Providers & Skippers that your set dimensions/weight are not accurate you should mention it at the end of the item description. This will alert the Transport Providers & Skippers they should exercise caution if they are uncertain whether the goods will fit in their vehicle or under that bridge!

We advise that you discuss the dimensions with the transport provider beforehand to confirm and to avoid any confusion.

How do I get a quote?

On Boat Movers Compared you can get quotes from any one of our hundreds of specialist Yacht Transport Providers & Skippers simply by following these simple steps:

  1. List your requirements in the Add Listing form to create a listing: http://www.boatmoverscompared.com/add-listing/
  2. Transport providers will see your delivery listing in the Search Deliveries page.
  3. If they are able to help with your delivery they will place an appropriate quote.

You will be sent an email to inform you when you have received a quote, so you won’t need to keep checking on your listing. We recommend allowing 1-2 days for quotes to come in, so that you can be sure that you have the best offer. However, it is not uncommon to get a great deal within a few hours!

Managing Your Listing

I’ve accepted the wrong quote! Can I go back and change it?

If you have accepted the wrong quote but have not yet paid the auction service fee via PayPal, then you will be able to go back onto your listing and accept the correct quote. Simply return to your listing page (the one with the big map) and press the green “Accept Quote” button for the correct quote.

However, if you have already paid the deposit you will need to contact customer services at info@boatmoverscompared.com who will be able to transfer the payment to the correct transport provider.

Why can’t I speak directly to the Skipper or transport Provider?

On Boat Movers Compared you are not allowed to share your contact information with the Skippers or Transport Providers directly until you have accepted their quote.

This is to prevent exchange of personal data online.

Once you have accepted a quote your contact details will be sent directly to the Skipper/Transport Provider and yourself. Your provider will contact you at the first available opportunity. Please feel free to contact our customer support team at info@boatmoverscompared.com if you haven’t heard from your provider after 48 hours.

Why can’t I accept a quote?

If you are having trouble accepting a quote, please check the following things:

  1. Is the quote still active? Only active quotes can be accepted so check the status of the quotes.
  2. Is your listing still active? On Boat Movers Compared a delivery listing will automatically expire after 1 month if no quote is accepted. If this is the case you can re-list your delivery by pressing the “Re-list” button in the “Expired Listings” section of “My Account”.

Why isn’t my featured delivery showing?

All featured delivery listings are displayed equally at the top of the search page. You may not see your listing displayed there every time you search, so try refining the search and refreshing the page.

If you still cannot see the delivery in the featured section then please contact customer services at info@boatmoverscompared.com

How can I ask a Skipper or Transport Provider questions?

Im afraid this feature is currently unavailable until you have accepted a quote.

Ive entered the wrong postcode, how can I change it?

If you have not yet accepted a quote then you will be able to edit your delivery to display the correct postcode.

However, if you have accepted a quote you will not be able to change the collection or delivery postcode. In this case you need to contact your chosen transport provider directly to discuss the issue.

If they are unable to complete the delivery to the new postcode, please contact customer services and we can re-list your delivery to help you to find a new Skipper or Transport Provider and credit the deposit that you have already paid.

I no longer need quotes, how do I delete my listing?

If you no longer require quotes from our Specialist Transport Providers and/or Skippers for whatever reason, please delete your request from the marketplace. This will stop you receiving quotes and save providers from wasting their time. Please follow these steps:

  1. Log in at: http://www.boatmoverscompared.com/login/
  2. Click on My Listings
  3. Then click on Delete Listing which is the red button on the right side of the page

How do I decline a quote?

Declining a quote on Boat Movers Compared isn’t possible. Simply don’t Accept a quote unless you are happy that it is the quote you want.

How do I accept a quote?

To accept a quote, please follow these steps:

  1. Login here:  http://www.boatmoverscompared.com/login/
  2. Click on “Current Quotes”
  3. Select your chosen quote by clicking on the green button “View Quote” on the right.
  4. Then click on the green “Accept Quote” button again on the right & follow the instructions on screen.

NB Please remember that a quote must be active in order for you to accept it. You cannot accept a declined, lapsed or withdrawn quote.

Can I request a quote from a Skipper or Transport Provider?

If you know of a specialist Transport Provider or Skipper you would like to quote on your delivery, you can request a quote by send an email to the Boat Movers Compared support team at info@boatmoverscompared.com

The email should contain:

  1. The id number of the listing
  2. The name of the transport provider you wish to quote on your listing

The Skipper or Transport Provider will then be emailed with a request to place a quote on your delivery quotation request.

How can I edit my listing?

If after listing your boat/yacht for delivery you find an error, omission or wish to change the details of your request, you can easily edit it. Please follow these steps to make the changes:

  1. Log in at: http://www.boatmoverscompared.com/login/
  2. Find your delivery under “My listings”
  3. Select “Edit Listing” from the side of the page
  4. Make the changes needed & ensure you click “Submit” at the end.

Please note you can only edit a delivery if it is active. If you have already accepted a quote, deleted the delivery request or the listing has expired you will not be able to make changes. If your delivery has no quotes, then you are free to edit your delivery entirely.

However, if you have already received quotes and you are materially changing the delivery request e.g. changing the pickup/delivery address, weight, dates etc. then you will have to decline all active bids before making the changes.

If you merely wish to add to the description or add more photos to help inform the transport providers (and are not materially changing the request at all), then you don’t need to decline the quotes.

Membership & Account

How can I delete my account?

If you no longer need your Boat Movers Compared user account, please contact Customer Service to delete your account: info@boatmoverscompared.com

Protecting my account…

Boat Movers Compared holds only minimal personal information on our servers; furthermore we hold absolutely no payment information such as bank details or credit cards. If you paid a deposit online, these were transacted via reputable secure third parties including PayPal.

To ensure a quick and easy service, by default you remain logged into Boat Movers Compared unless you log out. So, in order to protect your Boat Movers Compared account, do remember to log off (especially if you are using a public computer).

When choosing a password for your account, we recommend you use something which is easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess. It is a good idea to use a combination of both UPpeR AnD LowERCase letters as well as at least one number.

You are entirely responsible for any actions taken under your account login. It is your responsibility to keep your account secure. Do not share your password with anyone!

How do I register on Boat movers Compared?

Boat movers Compared does require registration, we are not an “instant quotes” website where you would be charged full rate.

On Boat movers Compared, you get low prices from hundreds of rated Yacht Delivery Skippers & Transport companies already making similar trips.

Accordingly it does take some time for quotes to come in as these Skippers & Transport Providers plan their routes and quote accordingly. Sometimes, it can be a few minutes, other times it may take a few days for the best rates to come in.

Payment & Service

Where can I get a VAT receipt?

If you require a VAT receipt you will need to contact your chosen Skipper or Transport Provider to obtain this for both the deposit and remaining balance.

How do I leave feedback?

Your feedback is very important as it helps other users to determine the trustworthiness of the transport provider. Once your delivery is complete you will receive an email with a link to leave feedback. If you no longer have this email please follow these steps to leave feedback:

  1. Log in at:  http://www.boatmoverscompared.com/login/
  2. Leave your feedback and save the changes.

How can I get a refund?

If for any reason your delivery has been cancelled by the Skippers or Transport Provider and you no longer need the delivery then you will be eligible for a refund. If you still need to deliver your item you can re-list your delivery.

Please contact customer service team at info@boatmoverscompared.com if you need to either re-list or file for a credit and they will happily assist you.

I’ve received my delivery but it’s damaged, what can I do?

If you have received your delivery but find that the item has been damaged you will need to contact your Skipper or Transport Provider. We advise that before the delivery takes place you request a copy of their insurance details so that you can make a claim if any problems arise.

We act as a neutral venue through which Skippers & Transport Providers and Users can meet and enter into negotiations and therefore we are not involved with the actual transaction.

My transport provider has cancelled, what can I do?

If you have been in contact with your Skipper or Transport Provider and they are unable to complete the delivery, you should contact our customer service team at info@boatmoverscompared.com as soon as possible. There are two options if your Skipper or Transport Provider has cancelled:

  1. Re-list your delivery so that you can find a new Skipper or Transport Provider and get your goods moved ASAP! We will credit the connection fee that you have already paid.
  2. A full credit of the deposit. You will need to file a cancellation request which the Skipper or Transport Provider will accept or reject depending on the circumstances. You can file for a deposit credit by contacting our customer service team at info@boatmoverscompared.com who will be happy to help you.

How do I cancel my delivery?

If you need to cancel your delivery after having accepted a quote then you need to speak to your chosen Skipper or Transport Provider. Once you have accepted a quote all arrangements are made directly with the Skipper or Transport Provider as it is their services that you need to cancel.

How can I contact my chosen provider?

Firstly, please note that direct contact information for Boat Movers Compared Skippers and Transport Providers is not and cannot be exchanged prior to quote acceptance.

I have accepted the quote and paid the deposit, what do I do now?

Boat Movers Compared is not a Skipper, haulier, carrier, freight forwarder or broker. Our site BoatMoversCompared.com acts as a neutral venue where users and service providers can meet and enter into agreements.

We are not and will not be involved in the actual transaction between users and service providers. Consequently, we have no control over the quality, safety, or legality of the transactions themselves. Although every care is taken to verify the identity of service providers Boat Movers Compared does not guarantee, prequalify or validate the claims of drivers or Skippers related to their licensure, insurance or certification.

Therefore, we strongly recommend users verify licences, insurance and any other professional certifications that service providers claim to have once the quote is accepted, and prior to paying any further fee’s past our connection fee.


Please make sure you verify with the service provider the level of insurance offered with the quote. Here are some further tips in regards to insurance:

  • Have your Skipper added to your “Hull Insurance”
  • Consider purchasing short-term insurance to cover your shipment

Insist upon a written contract.

Although Boat Movers Compared have set up the quotation page so as to act as a contract, it is important that both you and the service provider agree to sign and exchange a written contract of service for the delivery/shipment/work to be carried out. This is an important document should a dispute arise at a later date. Most providers will send you their standard contract prior to pick up. If they do not require you to sign such a contract we recommend you write up a contract of your own (seek the assistance of a legal professional).

How do I know I can trust the Skipper or Transport Provider?

Boat Movers Compared feedback score is your most valuable tool in determining trustworthiness, as feedback is left by other Boat Mover Compared users after every transaction. This can be positive, negative or neutral depending on the experience. You can view a Skipper or Transport Provider’s feedback score by clicking on their name to view their profile page. This will not only break down their feedback score but you can also view actual comments left by users about the service they received.

Reviews and comments can also be made by previous clients of the provider outside of Boat Movers Compared.

If the Skipper or Transport Provider claims to be a member of a trade association, look up that association on the web (Google) and the majority will have an online directory. Look up the Skipper or Transport Provider there to verify their claims. False claims of membership to a trade association are taken very seriously both by Boat Movers Compared and the police.

How do I pay the balance?

Every Skipper & Transport Provider on Boat Movers Compared has different requirements for payment terms and methods.

Before accepting a quote on Boat Movers Compared, you should check the quotation and the stipulated payment terms as this could be different to what is stipulated on the provider’s profile. By accepting the quotation, you have also accepted the provider’s terms.

Generally payment terms differ between part-payment up front, full-payment up front or payment on delivery.

Please be sure to check this information prior to accepting a quote.

Paying the deposit….

When you accept a quote on Boat Movers Compared, you need to pay a small deposit online through PayPal. The deposit payment is our fee for the connection and is deducted from the overall quote you have been given by the provider.

This secures the quote and releases the contact details of your chosen Skipper or Transport Provider. You then pay the remaining deposit and/or balance of the quote directly to the Skipper or Transport Provider at a time and method that was stipulated within the provider’s quotation.

Unlike multinational Yacht Delivery & Shipping Companies, independent Skippers & Transport Providers who use Boat Movers Compared often need to have every delivery scheduled to ensure that they are making a profit out of the trip. If for some reason you cancel your delivery at last minute, it could mean a substantial loss for the transport provider. Therefore please make sure you notify them of the cancellation ASAP in order for them to avoid any loss.

What are the payment methods?

When you accept a quote, you can pay the deposit via PayPal.

To find out how to pay the remaining balance you will need to contact your chosen Skipper or Transport Provider directly. Payment methods and requirements vary between Skippers & Transport Providers so it is best to discuss this with them prior to accepting a quote.
